An advance directive is a document expressing
a person's wish to have critical care applied when he/she is not
able to make a decision for himself in times when a decision is
needed on their behalf. An advance directive is similar to a power
of attorney only that it does NOT authorize that person to act on
behalf of a person or make decisions the way that a power of attorney
would.
